Snap Scene recently had the privilege of participating in the New England Street Worker Conference, spearheaded by UTEC at the iconic Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. It was a day filled with inspiration, connection, and incredible stories and incredible food. We’re tipping our hats to the amazing Leslie Rivera and Shawnic Coleman, who ensured our team was well cared for at every turn. Leslie, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, often took center stage as emcee, adding her vibrant energy to the event.
The conference kicked off with lively ice breakers, including the ever-popular “Mingle Mingle,” which helped attendees feel at ease and fostered a sense of camaraderie. The true emotional highlight of the day, however, came during Senator Liz Miranda’s speech. Her powerful words about overcoming obstacles and pushing for progress moved everyone in the room—our founder, Iya Thomas, included. As tears flowed, it was clear that Senator Miranda’s message of resilience struck a deep chord. Matthew Slater, renowned for his leadership both on and off the field, followed with an equally impactful speech. Focusing on faith, family, and the human responsibility to leave a lasting legacy, his words underscored the day’s theme of unity and social responsibility.
The workshop facilitators felt like family, supporting each other throughout the day. The camaraderie was palpable, with each facilitator looking out for their fellow speakers—creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. The workshops were held in the stunning sky suites, which offered breathtaking views of Gillette Stadium’s field. Attendees even had the chance to step out onto the field, where we held inspiration huddles, snapped photos, and engaged in deeper conversations.
Snap Scene’s workshop was designed to be as interactive as possible, focusing on strategies to elevate social impact through real-time exercises. Each topic began with an activity, ensuring that attendees could apply what they learned immediately. Iya shared her personal process for content creation and engagement, giving the audience a hands-on look at how to integrate these methods into their own work.
And then there was the food! Delicious, abundant, and almost impossible to resist. With meals so good, many of us found ourselves loosening belts and going back for seconds. The entire day was nothing short of amazing, and Snap Scene was honored to be part of such a groundbreaking movement. The conference broke down the stigma around street workers, uplifted communities, and reminded us all of the power of storytelling. At Snap Scene, we believe that everyone has a story to tell, and we were grateful for the opportunity to help UTEC share theirs.
Thank you to UTEC, Leslie Rivera, Shawnic Coleman, and all the incredible facilitators who made this day one for the books. An honorable mention goes to Joycita for being present and supportive. We’re proud to have been part of it, and we’re excited for what’s to come!
